Rachel Bilson as Dr. Zoe Hart; Zoe aspires to be like her father and become a cardiothoracic surgeon. After four years of residency at a New York Hospital, Zoe does not get a fellowship and takes up an offer to move to the South and work in a small medical practice in the town of "Bluebell". There, she discovers her biological father had given her the position; Hart decides to stay at the practice in order to learn from him.
